Two volunteers attend to damage caused by Beirut explosion

Marwan and Zeina, 29, are just two of the thousands who volunteered to clean the rubble of the Beirut explosion. Just a day after the incident, Marwan and Zeina hit the streets, construction hats and brooms in hand, searching for survivors who needed assistance. Attempting to ameliorate the damage, they organized and dusted many homes, making it feasible for residents to soon return. Much of their dedication came from the concern that their government would not provide assistance. “There is no hope for anyone to fix the country but us,” said Zeina. “I felt like I needed to go down and do something, for myself, for others, for my country.”
