Once Roma town council member Vladimir Spanik discovered a forgotten Jewish cemetery in the Slovak village of Vinodol, he was accompanied by a group of young boys from the community who volunteered to help restore the site. The cemetery had long been neglected; tombstones had fallen and become submerged under overgrown shrubbery. Over 1000,000 Slovak Jews were killed in the Holocaust, and 3,000 Slovak Jews still live in the Roma community. “The central issue for me is that they discover the Holocaust and the evil time for both Jews and Roma,” said Spanik.
