On their normal Monday pickup routine, Pelican Waste and Debris workers Dion Merrick and Brandon Antoine noticed a suspicious vehicle parked in the middle of a field. To their surprise, they had found a 10-year-old girl inside the vehicle who investigators initially believed was in “imminent danger” after being abducted from a family member’s home. Merrick and Antoine used their garbage truck to block the vehicle from escaping before calling the police. In a statement to NBC News, Pelican CEO Roddie Matherne said, “this was an exceptional thing that may very well have saved a little girl’s life.”
